THE Japanese government will support the country with 68 vehicles worth more than K7 million for the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit next year, according to Ambassador Satoshi Nakajima. Speaking at an event at the University of Papua New Guinea yesterday, he said the Apec leaders’ summit would not only showcase PNG to the world but accelerate economic development.
As the country’s second largest trading partner, Japan has been supportive, he said.
“To support the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation 2018, we will soon hand over to Papua New Guinea 68 vehicles comprising 46 medium and small sized buses and 22 ambulances worth approximately K7.5 million,” Nakajima said. In addition,  59 government officials have been in Japan for Apec training since 2016 and a Japanese music instructor has been training Papua New Guinea’s military music band to perform during the summit,” he said.
“2018 is a very important year for Papua New Guinea and we look forward to working closely with Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s government to make the 2018 Apec leaders’ summit a big success and further strengthen our friends and cooperation in the coming years.”
