JAPAN aid organisation Jica has donated a vehicle to the Education Department to assist in the QUIS-ME project, an improvement of mathematics and science text books project.
Speaking during the handover ceremony yesterday, Jica representative Yoshihiko Chujo said education was important to Jica.
“Our goal is better education for kids but this may take time,” Chujo said
He said Jica had been working with the Education Department in early 2000 with EQUI-TV project which ended last year and now to QUIS-ME project.
He said donation of the vehicle was a step Jica was taking towards better education for children.
“This goal may take several years for us to see the results but we believe that, better education for kids will be achieved through this project. It will take time and we go step by step by step,” Chujo said.
Education acting assistant secretary Steven Tandale thanked Jica for their support saying the vehicle would make work easy for the division.
Tandale thanked the Japanese government for making QUIS-ME project a reality.
He said by 2020, maths and science text books for the lower primary would be fully implemented in all the schools in the country.
The QUIS-ME project is the writing of new maths and science text books for lower primary schools.
“Japan is well known for its research and for its significant contribution to the world in terms of maths and science,” Tandale said.
