A BANKING group has made a  sponsorship of K20,000 towards the Jonah Lomu Legacy Cup Rugby 7s tournament in Port Moresby from Dec 9-11.
Bank South Pacific’s support goes toward the staging of the three-day rugby tournament.
While the initial tournament was planned for Port Moresby, invitations have been sent to Morobe, West New Britain, Madang and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
Bank executive Sandra Fore when presenting the sponsorship said her organisation was proud to be associated with junior sports development in PNG and the Pacific.
“Our sponsorship shows our continued commitment in building our young generations, socially, mentally and physicall,” Fore said.
“Sports teaches our youngsters discipline and respect.
“While the teams will be competing for the major prizes, there are special awards to be given to the best-and-fairest players and this promotes good judgement, discipline and positive attitudes in the game.
“We would like to wish all the players, team management and organisers success in the event,” she said.
Capital Rugby Union president Jacob Anga acknowledged Fore and her organisation for their support of the junior development programme.
“We’re grateful for your supporting a great concept geared towards empowering young men and women through rugby union in PNG,” Anga told Fore.
“The bank is truly a firm believer in junior development and we at rugby welcome your help. Thank you”
Some of the bank’s successful junior development programmes include the BSP School Kriket and PNG Swimming Inc junior development.
Both sports organisations have produced young Papua New Guineans who have represented the country in international events.
