K10,000 dispute sends man to trial

The Waigani Committal Court has found sufficient evidence against a man charged with obtaining money under false pretense to commit him to a trial.
Magistrate Mekeo Gauli ordered that Eric Mapiso, from Wapenamanda in Enga, appears before the National Court on Aug 14.
Mapiso was charged with one count of obtaining money under false pretense with intention to defraud. The court heard that Mapiso obtained K10, 000 from a man after he promised to repay the money after few months.
The court heard that the accused failed to repay the money on the due date.
It heard that the accused was arrested but he pleaded for a grace period so that he could repay the money.
The court was told that the accused also failed to repay the money when the grace period was due.
In a statement Mapiso told the court that he was forced to sign a statutory declaration.
He told the court that he only obtained K1000 and not K10, 000.
Mapiso told the court that he also gave his vehicle to the complainant for six months as a form of repayment.
