MORE than K283,000 has been raised to stage the Kutubu Kundu and Digaso Festival next month.
The Southern Highlands government contributed K100,000.
Provincial administrator Joe Kaiyo said they were pleased to support the initiative which promoted tourism in the province.
The festival will be held on Sept 22 to Sept 23.
Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) is supporting the festival featuring 40 communities in Southern Highlands, Hela and Gulf.
TPA chief executive officer Jerry Agus said PNG was the cultural mecca of the world.
“No other country in the world can beat us in terms of our diversity and uniqueness and is the only selling point for us,” Agus said.
However, he said the countries cultural practices were under threat and events such as the Kutubu festival would preserve and protect “our unique and diverse heritage”.
