MORE than 35,000 people of Fayantina  in the Henganofi district of Eastern Highlands are set to benefit from an K85 million sealed road from Nupuru to Fayantina, according to local MP Robert Atiayafa.
He announced the start of work at a media conference in Goroka.
“The National Government, in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), funded the road construction to sealing standard at a cost of K85 million,” Atiayafa said.
He thanked the O’Neill- Government for making it possible for the road from Nupuru station to Fayantina to be upgraded and sealed.
Atiayafa said a construction company from China had moved machineries and equipment into Henganofi and work is set to start after his Hernganofi district development authority (DDA) spent over K6.7 million to maintain the road.
“The credit for the success of the new road construction goes to former Henganofi MP Visviso Seravo because he initiated and struck the deal with ADB for the road upgrade and sealing,” he said.
He appealed to the people of Fayantina to cooperate and show respect to the contractor to ensure it did a good job.
Atiayafa said he would also fund the upgrade and sealing work of the Dunantina road, Henganofi to Dumpu road and Madang road.
