K900m bridge programme rollout progressing well: Wereh

THE Works Department has achieved an unprecedented 1,020 metres of major bridges reconstruction in the last five years.
Secretary David Wereh said that the K900 million multi-partnership bridge programme rollout in the country was looking optimistic with the completion of 11 high-standard two lane concrete composition bridges in Northern and Central provinces over the last four to five years.
He said that the first lots of bridges under a multi-million kina development and donor-partner programmes were successfully delivered in a timely manner within budget as per the contract duration period, which complemented the increase in the demand for road usage in the country.
Wereh said that the major focus of the Department of Works Corporate Strategic Plan 2015-2019 was to undertake the replacement of 800 metres of one-lane temporary Bailey bridges to permanent double-lane concrete standard that was climate resilient on the main highways.
