THE Kagamuga international airport, in Mt Hagen, has been reopened after its closure last week due to election-related unrest.
National Airport Corporation chief executive Richard Yopo told The National that those responsible for the disruption at the airport would be charged.
“Yes we have reopened Kagamuga. Those who instigated the intrusion,  caused damages to the runway and spilled oil will be charged in Mt Hagen or upon their arrival in Port Moresby,” Yopo said.
“The same will happen for the leaders who got their supporters to run onto the runway at Wapenamanda.”
Air Niugini will be resuming flights to and from Mt Hagen from today.
“The NAC, police, airlines and community representatives held a meeting at the airport this morning.
“Police and the communities have assured the travelling public and staff working at the airport of their safety,” a statement said.
“Air Niugini operates up to four Fokker 100/70 jet services daily between Port Moresby and Mount Hagen, and three services weekly between Mount Hagen and Wewak.
Passengers who have purchased tickets are advised to contact or go to your nearest Air Niugini sales office to revalidate your travel.”
