Kairuku set to host boxing tournament

THE Kairuku Amateur Boxing Association in Central is staging a boxing tournament to celebrate the 41st anniversary of Papua New Guinea’s independence.
Boxing associations from Central, Gulf and the National Capital District are expected at the Sept 13-16 tournament to be help at Apainapi in North Mekeo.
Kairuku Amateur Boxing Association president Andrew Magaiva announced the tournament dates yesterday.
“The major prize on offer is the Governor Kila Hoada Cup and a K1000 cash bonus to the champion association, as well as minor medals and trophies for individual fighters,” Magaiva said.
“Women’s fighters will be competing in the 48kg to 75kg weight divisions, while the men will contest in the 49kg to the super heavyweight division.”
Boxers from the district will be from the Kairuku Amateur Boxing Association and the New Mekeo Amateur Boxing Association.
Magaiva invited the Hiri and Abau boxing associations to be part of the tournament.
