KEREMA Basketball Association underdogs United (men’s) and Kerema Secondary School (women’s) beat their respective opponents to secure spots for the grand final on Oct 16.
In the men’s preliminary final, United beat Medics (1) 42-38 in a close finish.
United will face Urban Fox in the premiership decider.
A good display of skill was put on show by Medics’ Issac Omae, Laden Rodney and Rod Ravi against United.
But they were outmuscled by United, who had the advantage under the backboards to win the tussle.
In the women’s game Kerema Secondary beat OBM 23-14 to book the final date with Urban Fox.
The students turned an excellent final two quarters in their favour, with fast ball skills from Dairi Rodney, Elizabeth Saroa and Rebecca Ipai denying the opposition.
Meanwhile, Kerema Basketball Association president Aisi Aua confirmed that players were selected to represent the association in the upcoming PNG National Under-18 Championships in Port Moresby from Sept 27-Oct 1. He said the final squads would be announced soon.
