KOKOPO has been confirmed as the host of the 42th fast pitch national softball championship to be held over the long Easter weekend.
PNG Softball Federation chief Ralph Tarasomo said the tournament would be hosted by ENB Softball League, chaired by Cleopas Warpit and assisted by Markis Vonono.
The tournament director is umpire in-chief Peter Chalapan.
All games will be played at the Takubar Sports Centre.
Tarasomo said more than 20 technical officials would be utilised throughout the four-day event.
Chalapan said he would ensure that a refresher course was offered to umpires officiating during the tournament.
Centres eligible to take part are Port Moresby men’s and women’s associations, ENBSL, Kokopo, Pomio, Gazelle, Rabaul, Lae, Madang, Mt Hagen, Buluminski, Kavieng, Wewak, Kimbe, AROB and Goroka.
Tarasomo said all affiliation and registration fees must be paid. Harry Keket should be contacted for details. All centres are given a week to confirm their participation.
“We are expecting a full-house and urge the community in ENB to come and embrace the homecoming of the sport,” he said.
Defending champions NCD Meros will be pushing to maintain their crown while stiff opposition will come from Pom Melona’s, Lae, Madang and dark-horses Buluminski.
