‘Kokopo lacks communication on implementing projects’

THERE are loopholes in the communication processes and procedures during implementation of major impact projects in Kokopo.
Lord mayor Diuvia Kopman confirmed recently that many projects in the Kokopo-Vunamami Urban local level government (KVULLG) area that had been awarded by the Central Supply and Tenders Board were undertaken without consulting relevant authorities.
He said KVULLG had only realised this recently when dealing with several issues.
“It is mostly during the implementation phase of the projects when we realise that we had been poorly informed during the consultation phase,” he said.
“Our town engineers are usually left out during the consultation phase and never included in the implementation phase.
“This is a big development issue.
“We feel that we are being avoided, and not being consulted regarding projects that will affect the lives of the people we work for.
“It is important that KVULLG is included in all processes and procedures because this government oversees development in the city.”
Kopman said urban LLGs were centres of all municipal services adding there was “great need for higher authorities to link-up through any means of communication”.
He said this was crucial for any development.
