Kombra urges schools to celebrate National Book Week

Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra says all schools and institutions under the national education system are to observe the National Book Week which starts today.
With the theme, Libraries for Nation Building, the National Book Week (NWB) will be commemorated from Aug 7 to 11.
Kombra said book week was an annual event in the education ministry.
It is organised and co-ordinated by the Office of the Library and Archives.
Teachers and students of all institutions throughout the country are required to actively participate in the event.
Kombra said this was so that students could promote and celebrate books and reading.
He said reading was an important source of enhancing knowledge acquired during teaching and learning.
The slogan for the NBW this year is in line with the United Nations agenda on Sustainable Development Goal four which is closely linked to quality education.
The Department of Education supports the NBW because students and teachers depended on quality books in the classrooms.
It is an important event as it prompts both students and teachers to understand that subject-related information.
It must be researched through books to deepen content knowledge.
Meanwhile, more than 29,433 Grade 12 students from 160 secondary and national high schools will sit the written expression examination today.
Kombra had said in an earlier statement that the paper would take three hours.
