Korean centre supports rural growth

PAPUA New Guinea is a paradise blessed with natural resources but needs better food and improved living conditions, says the president of the Semaul Undong Centre in Goroka, Dr SO Jin Kwang.
He visited the four villages in Eastern Highlands piloting the Korean concept to have villagers develop their villages themselves.
“I am here to share with you the Korean experience so you can learn from it so that your next generation can be better off,” Kwang said.
He said through the Semaul Undong Centre concept, South Korea developed itself over the past 40 to 50 years to be the seventh biggest economic power in the world today.
He said South Korea is now a major aid donor to The World
countries including Papua New Guinea.
He visited SMU projects at Henagaru village in the Okapa district, Bush-Bata village at Korofeigu in the Ungai-Bena district, Kafana and Kafuku villages in Goroka district this week..
He was satisfied with the progressive developments of the SMU pilot project and promised to continue support in the next five years from 2018 to 2022.
Kwang also paid a courtesy visit to Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu and shared with him the SMU strategy to empower rural villagers. He said the PNG SMU centre could build a value chain with rural villagers for a better life.
