Kua is right but his own ‘house’ is not in order

Letters

I WRITE in reference to a news article in The National last Friday (Nov 25) titled, “Kua urges politicians to be accountable in decision making”.
Firstly, Kua is right in speaking against the malpractice and the lack of accountability shown by many leaders in the country but I want him to address accountability issues in Sinasina-Yongomugl district first before talking about the country.
As a former Governor and president in the Tabare Local level government in Sinasina Yongomugl, I observed that the district is poor in terms of development and lack accountability and transparency where public funds have been misused without the member’s deliberation.
Earlier this year, the district accounts was audited and identified that some top bureaucrats of Sinasina Yongomugl district which include the district manager, district treasurer and others were arrested and charged for misusing public monies and having their case before the court.
Such corruption and malpractice must not occur under the leadership of Kua as the former Minister for Justice and Attorney-General as it paints a bad reputation.
I suggest that Kua must ensure that accountability and transparency prevail in his district administration affairs as a priority because we are sick of this norm.
We should be leading by example.
