THE Lae Biscuit company has donated garden tools to Buimo prison to acknowledge the business it has with the correctional facility.
Staff from the biscuit firm donated rakes, axes, a lawnmower and biscuits.
Mamose regional sales manager Andrew Bayak said the donation was the first but not the last to the prison.
“We had to work together in supporting each other in the community. Although it wasn’t much, it was the company’s community obligation to support communities and government-run institutions.”
Administration manager Judy Tara said the prisoners would be back in the community after serving their terms. “It needs a partnership between the families, community and business houses in rehabilitating the prisoners. It is important that we hold hands to see these people become good citizens in their communities after leaving the prison,” Tara said.
Tara said the assistance would encourage other business houses to assist the prison.
“This is our people, our families here and they’ll be back in the community and needs the support from everyone,” Tara said.
