THE Lae Football Association’s 2017 season is set to start next month, general secretary Haiveta Kivia says.
He said existing and interested new clubs would be advised soon on the dates for the opening of the pre-season and season proper.
The competition would be discussed during the association’s annual general meeting on Sunday.
“Despite mundane politicking ruining many years of hard work, the LFA executive committee promises its loyal clubs that 2017 will be a much bigger and better year,” Kivia said.
He said LFA and its major sponsors Coca-Cola, JV PNG Construction Limited and Welgris Fuel Distributors gave more than K45,000 in cash prizes and trophies in last year’s grand finals.
The association has promised a better year of football, he said.
The pre-season will start on March 4 and end with finals on Mar 19. The season proper starts on Mar 25.
“Existing clubs will pay an affiliation fee of K1000 while new clubs will pay K1500,” Kivia said.
He said player registration fees were K20 for senior grades and K10 for junior grades. These fees must be paid before Mar 25.
“Players registration is important as LFA will take out insurance cover for players and officials. The juniors are asked to bring with them birth certificates and original clinic cards during registration.”
