Lae Independence celebration eventful

THE industrial city of Lae came alive on Independence Day last Friday with an array of activities.
In the morning, a convoy of 30 vehicles with people cheering and waving PNG and provincial flags to begin the celebrations.
Hundreds travelled to Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium to witness a military parade. Lae MP Loujaya Kouza was the chief guest.
Students from the primary and high schools in Lae joined the procession into the stadium by marching along Markham Road led by the Bugandi Band Boys.
Traditional singsing groups graced the stadium arena to entertain the crowd with their colourful and beautiful traditional attires representing each of their unique cultural groups.
The master of ceremony, Bami Sorinkec urged everyone at the stadium to lower their provincial flags and raise the national flag, saying it was a national celebration and everyone should respect that day.
