ONE of the biggest soccer associations in the country, the Lae Football Association (LFA) yesterday had a timely boost from a local business house for this weekend’s finals.
More than K18,000 worth of shields and trophies was given by JV PNG Investment Construction Limited general manager Graham Hayes to LFA general secretary Haiveta Kivia.
Hayes told The National that he was pleased with LFA for giving the company the privilege to sponsor all the division’s finals for this season.
He said hopefully the gesture in sponsoring the association was not one off but is looking forward to more sponsorship in years to come.
“LFA is one of the biggest associations in the country and with the bit of sponsorship they might better themselves and their communties,” Hayes said.
Kivia said LFA was privilege to receive the kind of sponsorship which boosted the morale of the executives, players and clubs as the association wound down its season.
He said this weekend would be big for everyone involved with the competition.
He thanked the company and noted that all playoff teams would get atrophy or award at the end of the finals. Kivia said the LFA had made significant improvements in 2016 in terms of being able to maintain the standard of soccer as well as promote the code at the grassroots level and into the semi-professional National Soccer league.
The Saturday’s games kick off with the Under-17s in the morning and will conclude with men’s A league final between Poro and City United.
This will be the fifth final appearance between the sides and is expected to be a high quality affair with both sides boasting a number of NSL stars.
