Landowner urges Telikom PNG to remove tower

A MAN from the Boikin Dagua Local Level Government in East Sepik has called on Telikom PNG to remove a tower erected on a piece of land which he claims to be his.
Lawrence Momin said Telikom did not get his consent to put up the communication tower on his land at Ballam village. Momin said two men who claimed to own that piece of land had gone to bring in Telikom.
“Everyone in Ballam as well as nearby villages in Butt know that this piece of land was given to my forefathers after battle,” he said.
“It belongs to the Mogetumus clan which is a sub clan of my Nebenek clan.”
Momin and his clan members from Butt village in Dagua recently lodged a complaint with Wewak Police to stop the work by Telikom engineers.
The management of Telikom PNG told The National that it was aware of the landownership issue in East Sepik.
The management said the matter was currently being addressed with the assistance of the Wewak Lands Office.
