LAW and order remains one of the biggest challenge in Hela, according to administrator William Bando (pictured).
He told the 2017 Leaders’ Summit in Port Moresby on Monday that the police structure for the province was yet to be approved, and they did not have a fully operational Correctional Services in place.
“The government spent almost K5 million to rehabilitate the CS housing in the past three years,” he said.
“The process of justice in our province is not complete until we have fully operational Correctional Services.
“We have a call-out currently on and the support we have from the Government has brought a lot of relief to our province.
“The first phase has been completed and we had almost 105 factory-made guns and about 900 homemade guns surrendered.
“All in all, the call-out has been a success. Today, women and children are able to walk freely in Tari.”
He said in the past three years when the tuition fee-free policy was implemented, Hela did not see an increase in enrolment figures experienced by schools in other provinces.
