Leaders must be based in province: Abel

Papua

Deputy Prime Minister Charles Abel last Wednesday opened the new village water supply for Iokea in Gulf with the promise of better things to come for the province.
He opened the project with Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta and Youth Religion and Community Development Minister Soroi Eoe who is the Kikori MP.
Abel said he saw much hope for Gulf with the election of Haiveta, who is no newcomer to national politics, as well as Eoe.
“I think there will be some very good changes happening in this next five years,” he said.
“It all comes down to leadership.”
Abel said Gulf needed leaders who were based in the province rather than in Port Moresby.
“We’re tired of this kind of leadership,” he said.
“We want leaders who are based here in Kerema town.
“Our Government is giving money and I want to see the roads sealed, hospitals upgraded and high schools completed.
“Every village must have a water supply.
“Where’s the elementary school, where’s the aid post, where are the public servants?
“It’s not rocket science or complicated.
“We’ve got the resources, we’ve got the beautiful people, we all need to put our hands together in unity for Papua New Guinea, for our children.”
Abel said he was happy that money from the Government’s Church Partnership Programme had resulted in the water supply project.
