The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League has included three rugby union players in its Southern Hunters Academy 30-man training squad for next year.
Former Pukpuks flanker and sevens representative Desmond Korpok will get a chance to impress the Hunters management and follow in the footsteps of another Pukpukscum- Hunter, Butler Morris. Tau Fitzgerald and Jacob Nigints are also making the transition from rugby to the 13-man code, with their inclusion in the squad.
Hunters assistant coach Nigel Hukula said the players had been picked from local competitions in the Natioanal Capital District and the Central, as well as from a Digicel Cup franchise. “Apart from the three rugby union players, 11 players continue on from last year’s academy while the rest have been selected from the Port Moresby rugby league and Motu Koita clubs, as well as two from the Southern Confederate team and one from the Gulf Isapea,” Hukula said.
The squad will assemble tomorrow morning at Seven Mile, Port Moresby, for medical tests and a briefing. The camp ends on Sunday.
