CHIEF Justice Sir Salamo Injia says the Pacific Judicial Conference is centred on the maintenance of the rule of law.
In his welcome address at the opening of the conference in Port Moresby yesterday, Sir Salamo said the meeting was the largest gathering of chief justices from the Pacific.
“The Pacific legal conference is a bi-annual conference for chief justices that has been held since 1972 in different parts of the Pacific,” he said.
“In this conference, topics of mutual interest in the region are discussed.”
Sir Salamo said the theme for this year’s conference was “Enhancing the Quality of Justice in the Pacific”.
“The practical nature of the theme and the topics that have been selected are of interest to all judicial officers, judges and magistrates,” he said.
This is the second time PNG is hosting the conference. The first was in Madang in 2003.
