Library services to deliver trainings

THE rural library volunteer services (RLVS) programme in Huon Gulf, Morobe, is reaching out into road-linked schools to conduct library upkeep and management skills training for teachers.
A teacher by profession Joyce Orere initiated the educational intervention programme with funding assistance from Huon Gulf MP Ross Seymour to ensure the 59 primary and 109 elementary schools in the district all have libraries for students.
The service hade reached into rural schools in Morobe, Salamaua and Wampar to train upkeep and management skills of library books since 2015.
Morobe Governor Kelly Naru was impressed with the value for the services during the opening of a library building, toilets and shower block at Zifasing Primary School and promised a vehicle last year.
Naru presented three vehicles to respective groups included RLVS, Parapi cooperative group and Markham Deer-Magani farming groups, totalling K180,000 which a vehicle valued at K60,000 each.
“Library books are the core elements to knowledge in all learning institutions that nourishes students reading, writing and comprehension ability to understand the world around us,” Naru said.
“Assisting RLVS complements various educational intervention programmes in the province initiated by the government in the last four years.”
Naru said the other educational intervention programmess were flexible open distance education, free school uniforms and Heldsbach elementary school teachers training college in Finschhafen.
The high schools initiated were Boana and Bukawa (Nawaeb), Wantoat and Ragiampum (Markham), Buang and Garaina (Bulolo), Burum-Kuat (Finschhafen) and Yus (Kabwum). The Bukawa, Garaina, Ragiampum, Burum-Kuat and Yus are in the pipeline.
