CHILDREN attending an elementary school in Central have been benefiting from a classroom built by their local level government president.
President of Hiri LLG Haoda Rogea built a single classroom using his own money to cater for the 37 children attending Rabuka Elementary School.
Children had been learning in a church building because there was no proper classroom.
Rogea has been allocating K500 from his fortnightly pay over the past six months to purchase building material for the classroom.
The community provided labour and they built the classroom which was officially opened by the Central Governor Kila Haoda and Kairuku-Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo on Nov 9.
“The classroom that we built is an indication that I want to highlight to the government and the people in authority that there are certain communities around the country that lack basic services,” Rogea said.
“The kids that we always say will be the leaders of the future, we – as the leaders – should be seriously looking at bringing these kinds of services into the rural areas for their benefit. We look forward to building a primary school for the community in the near future.
“What you see today is a true partnership between the community, myself and the Central provincial government.
“The governor has been instrumental in supporting the people of Hiri LLG in delivering some of the services.
“This single classroom is the seventh classroom built by the Hiri LLG under my administration.
“I can say that LLG can deliver if the national government directly funds LLGs.
“They will deliver because LLG is the frontline and it deals with  people on a daily basis.”
The community members in Rabuka have welcomed the establishment of the classroom.
They thanked Rogea for it.
