Local firm backs PNG soccer’s bid for World Cup qualification

THE Papua New Guinea Kapuls’ preparation for the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier against Tahiti was boosted with five buses made available for the event.
Yesterday, Ela Motors made available new buses for the teams to use for the game today at the Sir John Guise Stadium. PNG Football Association vice-president John Wesley Gonjuan thanked the dealer for their support of the Under-20 Women’s World Cup last year and now the men’s qualifier.
“We are privileged to work in partnership with the firm to deliver all the events in the country,” Gonjuan told The National during the bus presentation at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
Kapuls coach Flemming Serritslev said: “It’s a big issue for us, PNGFA, to have a partner like corporate partner and we are very thankful of the assistance.”
Serritslev said he was grateful for the initiative taken by Ela Motors.
According to the firm’s operations general manager Neil Stewart, the dealership was keen on assisting the community and supporting a national team participate in sporting events was no different.
“Sports has been a focus for us, in terms of showcasing PNG to the world as a capable host of major sporting events,” Stewart said.
“We provided 20 buses for the women’s World Cup last year and are looking forward to supporting the Rugby League World Cup later this year.”
The firm has provided two 25-seater buses for the PNG and Tahiti teams, and three 15-seater Toyota Hiace buses for team officials and staff.
The PNG-Tahiti qualifier kicks off at 4pm today at the Sir John Guise Stadium. Tickets are availble at EuroSport, Vision City.
