Man charged with forgery to stand trial

A MAN charged with forgery and uttering has been committed to stand trial in the national court next month after the Waigani Committal Court in Port Moresby found sufficient evidence against him.
David Tei, 29, and from Minj in Jiwaka, was charged with four counts of forgery and four counts of uttering with intentions to defraud funds belonging to the Komaio Community School in Gulf.
The court heard that on Dec 13, 2016, Tei was at Bank South Pacific Port Moresby branch where he allegedly forged the signatures of the chairman and the secretary of the school.
The signatures were on a BSP withdrawal slip with the account number of the school.
The court heard that the accused tried to withdrew K57,000.
It also heard that the accused filled in a deposit slip with the sum of K53,000 of another account that belonged to Kopung Stationery Supplies held with BSP Daru branch.
The court was told that the accused produced a false authorisation letter from the director of Gulf education department and also meeting minutes of the school board.
It was told that the accused was investigated by police when BSP officials detected that the documents were fraudulent.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar told Tei that even no money was withdrawn, his intentions was criminal in nature.
Bidar ordered Tei to appear for listing at the national court on Aug 14.
