Man in court for unlawful wounding

A COURT has told a man charged with unlawful wounding and causing public fear that he was being remanded in custody because he had failed to pay a K1000 bail.
Magistrate Cosma Bidar told Kupa Auri, 23, from Ihu in Gulf, that he should have paid the K1000 bail imposed on him on August 5.
Auri was accused of swinging bush knife in a public place at Gorobe settlement in Port Moresby which injured Gabriel Kumiya on April 15.
Auri’s lawyer asked the court to reduce the bail fee to K700 or K600.
The court granted the request but warned Auri that he must not interfere with any witness and not to drink any alcoholic beverages while on bail.
Police allege that on April 15, Auri who was under the influence of alcohol, grabbed hold of a knife and was swinging it in public.
When Kumiya walked up to him, Auri allegedly swung the knife at him.
Auri’s relatives brought him to police and he was charged on April 18.
Magistrate Bidar ordered that the matter to return to court on October 7.
