A MAN in Chimbu who has been making more than K1000 weekly from illicit homebrew and providing employment for nearly 20 unemployed youths has finally surrendered to police last week.
James Okopo of Kundar village has been operating near the banks of the famous Wara Simbu.
He decided to quit and offered himself to the Kundiawa police special operation ‘Weeding Grass’ team. The father of three primary school-aged children was one of the most wanted illegal homebrew (steam) producers.
He has served the entire Yuai, Wara Simbu and Kundiawa town communities for many years.
Chimbu police commander acting Supt David Seine Jnr confirmed the surrender of Okopo.
“Operation Weeding Grass has been hunting for him until he surrendered last Wednesday,” he said.
