A MAN convicted for dangerous driving causing death in Port Moresby five years ago received a suspended two-year jail sentence yesterday.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar, in the Waigani Committal Court, also put Moses Kewa, from Western Highlands, on a good behaviour bond for 12 months.
Kewa pleaded guilty to the offence when he first appeared in court.
The court heard that on July 22, 2012 Kewa was driving along the PTC Road towards Boroko from Morata.
Kewa’s vehicle collided with a PMV bus which resulted in the death of a man after he left his lane and drove into the oncoming lane.
The court heard that the man was standing at the doorway of the PMV bus when the collision took place.
The court heard that as a result of the collision, the man fell out and died instantly.
The court found that the bus was travelling in a wrong route and the driver was also unlicensed.
Kewa told the court that the incident was unfortunate, he was also remorseful and apologised to the families of the man.
