A MAN who caused injuries to the genitals of another which required 14 stitches in hospital will stand trial in the Waigani National Court.
Waigani Committal Court magistrate Cosmas Bidar ruled that there was sufficient evidence to commit Thomas Warepa, 30, to trial.
He remanded him in custody.
Warepa, from Tuku village in the Koroba-Lake Kopiago district of Hela, is facing a charge of causing grievous bodily harm.
Warepa told the court that he and Kelo Kepawi were drunk on June 25 at the Erima settlement in Port Moresby.
He said Kepawi was kicking him while he was trying to sleep.
He grabbed his genitals, causing injuries which required 14 stitches at the hospital.
Warepa also claimed that he had paid K14,000 to Kepawi as compensation.
Bidar told Warepa that he must provide proof of the payment to the National Court, and the evidence from Kepawi that he had received the money.
“There is no good reason why you should do that to the victim,” Bidar said.
Police alleged that Warepa had an argument with Kepawi over accommodation.
Kepawi allegedly tried to throw Warepa out of a house.
Warepa, who was lying on the floor, allegedly grabbed his genitals.
Police said Kepawi was taken to the Port Moresby General Hospital.
He told by doctors that he could have died.
He will appear for listing at the National Court on October 24.
