POLICE operations for the festive season in Manus will begin today.
A briefing on the operations for Christmas and New Year was conducted yesterday and provincial police commander Chief Inspector David Yapu said they were geared up.
Yapu said the Mobile Squad 18 from the Islands Mobile Group from Tomaringa would be assisting.
He said they would conduct random roadblocks at strategic locations to check vehicles and drivers, do foot and road patrols, check illegal liquor outlets, look for prison escapees and persons wanted on bench warrants, conduct awareness at wards and LLGs and raid areas where homebrew was produced and sold.
Yapu encouraged his officers to maintain their discipline.
He appealed to the LLG presidents, ward councillors, village court magistrates and other community leaders to work with police to ensure the province was quiet and peaceful.
Yapu warned youths involved in homebrew and drug activities that police would be hard on them.
“We will not entertain those illegal activities in our community,” he said.
