South Bougainville MP Timothy Masiu has made history by meeting and holding discussions with the reclusive head of the self-styled Kingdom of Papala, King David Peii II, also known as Noah Musingku.
The meeting, which took place behind closed doors last Friday, made Masiu the first Bougainville MP to meet Musingku since the Bougainville crisis ended.
Masiu said the meeting lasted  almost two hours and culminated in the signing of a memorandum of cooperation for closer and better working relationship on issues of common good to the people of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and more particularly South Bougainville.
Without disclosing details of their talks, Masiu said his encounter with Musingku was “very friendly and wide-ranging”.
“It created understanding and a pathway towards closer working relationships and better understanding,” he said.
“There have been a lot of misunderstanding and misconceptions on certain ideologies of Musingku, which can only be better understood and appreciated through closer working relationship.”
Masiu said Musingku and his followers were citizens of AROB and voters in the South Bougainville.
“It was also an opportunity to renew old acquaintances after 36 years,” he said, explaining that he and Musingku were schoolmates at Buin High School in the late 1970s.
“The meeting has forged a way forward and is the beginning of good things to come for South Bougainville and the whole of Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
