THE Papua New Guinea Billiards and Snooker Association thanked Bank South Pacific for their support of the 2017 PNG Men’s National Snooker Titles.
This is the 15th consecutive year of sponsorship by BSP of this prestigious event on the PNGBSA calendar.
This year’s BSP Men’s National Snooker Titles cues off in Port Moresby next Tuesday (Sept 5) with the minor titles. This concept was introduced several years ago due to the overwhelming number of players wishing to take part.
PNGSBA vice-president John Chan thanked the organisers and venue managers for their help in getting the tournament ready.
“I would like to thank the staff, management and members of Aviat Club, Lamana Q Club and Laguna Hotel for the use of their facilities during the tournament,” Chan said.
“Also a big thanks to the platinum Sponsors The National and Strickland Real Estate, Gold sponsors Bizprint, Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited and SP Brewery Ltd as well as silver sponsors Nings Agencies and Street Scene for supporting the event.
“BSP must be commended for their support for this growth in the number of players.”
The major title will cue off on Sept 12.
Nominations have opened with 40 players expected for the minor titles and 40 for the major Titles.
The winner of the minor title gets an automatic entry in the major titles and try for a double as well.
Current champion Marcus Ng, pictured, beat eight-time champion Djorne Fong last year and another quality showdown is expected this year.
Fees are K200 for the minor title and K250 for the major title.
If fees are paid on or before the deadline, K50 will be refunded. The closing date for the minor titles is tomorrow (Sept 1) while for the major titles, registration closes on Monday Sept 8.
Players are expected from Kavieng, Alotau and Kimbe including from the host city.
A subsidy will be given to the best outstation players to cover airfares.
