AWADU sisters Perpetua and Zoe, playing for Mia, easily beat Siapea’s Nancy Sirei and Linda Simoi 2-0 in the women’s beach volleyball competition at the Sir John Guise courts yesterday.
The Awadu pair were outstanding as they capitalised on errors to win the two-setter comfortably with scores of 21-8 and 21-16 on the sand pit at the Waigani venue.
Siapea, with Sirei and Simoi, tried hard to stay in the contest and performed better in the second set.
In the men’s matches, Hula beat Rakas 2-0, Hawks flew over the A Team with the same score and Vinaka got the jump on Jama 2-0 as well.
Beach volleyball competition coordinators Niga Dick and Kovea Karulaka urged teams to pay their K100 registration fee and to wear uniforms in the next round of matches.
Karulaka said while the juniors are well-organised, the seniors had yet to do sort themselves out.
He said the deadline to settle the fees was this Sunday.
He said both the junior men’s and women’s competitions started in January and was running smoothly.
PNGVF president Dick said the federation was in the process of identifying talent for the Under-18 and open men’s and women’s teams to represent PNG.
Dick said beach volleyball had generated interest among the volleyball community and was supported by the PNG Olympic Committee.
