PARLIAMENT will be officially opened on Aug 22, Acting Clerk to Parliament Kala Aufa says.
He said the session would be a colourful event because the PNG Defence Force would be involved.
“It will be a colourful event because we will have a gun salute outside the Parliament House,” he said.
“The Governor-General of PNG, Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae, will deliver his address in the presence of  parliamentarians and then the prime minister will make a statement.
“Then the normal process of the official opening will follow.”
Aufa said the families of members were invited and expected. “Four to five families of each MP will be invited so the gallery of the parliament will be filled with families and diplomatic corps,” Aufa said.
“This week, we had only departmental heads and the diplomatic corps, with a few others, because it was the first parliament.”
He said the opening would be followed by the MPS dicussing the formation of ministries and committees.
