Minj market opens for business

MOTHERS from surrounding communities of Minj Town in Jiwaka have welcomed the opening of a new market there on Monday.
They will no longer need to sell garden produce in the open exposed to sun and rain but sit comfortably under shelters and earn their money.
The mothers, community leaders, business houses and working people praised local businessman Gibson Kum for his kind gesture in building the market infrastructure.
The facility has space for at least 50 sellers.
It has a television screen and discs mounted on top of the building with three high powered speakers.
Market vendors Betty Bill and Florence Ondkoi are widows and they live upstream Minj River.
“What Molka Lodge has done for us today is beyond our imagination,” they told The National.
“This days nobody wants to give things freely to others but for Molka Lodge to bless us with such massive market infrastructure is a gift that can make our lives much easier.
“We have nothing to give to the Molka Lodge managing director  Gibson Kum and his management but we pray for God to bless them to continue with their humanitarian efforts.”
Moses Kaoks from Wabag, a long-time resident at Minj, and Joan Morea, a teacher, said the new market is very conducive and would serve them better.
Gibson, who changed his surname from Yuants to Kum said the facility will provide a conducive environment for the community and visitors.
“It is only a gesture of goodwill from Molka Lodge to the marginalised members in the community,” Kum said.
