Moresby South sets pace in urban netball competition

MORESBY South electorate wants to become a model electorate in sporting activities in National Capital District.
Moresby South MP and Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko, pictured, made the comment when he officially closed the four-day netball tournament on Tuesday at Rita Flynn Complex on Tuesday.
He commended Moresby South Netball president Loi Vele for taking the lead in ensuring the smooth-flowing of four-day tournament, which ended on Tuesday.
She said 94 teams from 16 communities and villages in Moresby South electorate took part in what was a gift from Tkatchenko to recognise women in his electorate.
The competition started with juniors while the seniors started on Monday and ended their games yesterday.
Vele said that too often people forgot about women and this event was meant for women in the electorate.
She thanked Tkatchenko for his support of K100,000. Vele said this was the second time the tournament was held; the was first staged in 2013. Vele said former PNG Pepes players Kiri Francis and Sarufa Tore were good examples of what such a tournament can achieve.
Kiri’s daughter, Rayleen Andrew is now a member of PNG Pepes currently taking part in Four Nations Cup in Singapore.
