Mothers in labour should be treated better

Letters

IT is time attention is brought to the ill treatment given to our mothers and sisters during child labour at general hospitals around the country.
Child labour is a struggle that all mothers go through it; it is a painful and emotional experience.
Aren`t midwives and nurses there to help support and make sure infants are brought into this world without complications?
From what I`ve heard from my sisters, mothers and colleagues who have had their babies delivered at general hospitals, the verbal abuse they get from the nurses in delivery rooms are enough to make them save up money to pay for their next delivery at a private hospital.
Apparently, midwives expect all women to go through with the delivery without any sound of pain. This is impossible as we all know.
This issue has been going on for years and to most Papua New Guinean women it seems normal. This is just wrong.
To those midwives and nurses who love their job, I salute you. Keep up the good work.
