MP vows to fight corruption in North Fly

North Fly MP James Donald has declared zero-tolerance on corruption in his district and urges everyone to exercise restraint and have some sense of responsibility to their people.
Donald said his district and Western as a whole had suffered at the hands of corrupt individuals and it was time now to put things into perspective.
He assured the people of North Fly that he would not tolerate corruption as the political head of the district administration.
Donald said he would fight corruption and protect public money meant for the delivery of services to his people.
The no-nonsense MP issued this warning after he was served with a court summons for stopping a payment of more than K1 million to a contractor by the North Fly district administration without his knowledge.
Donald said as chairman of the DDA, he should be aware of any transactions from the main district treasury account, especially to do the project funds, and in this case he was not aware of this payment.
He was away on an overseas business trip when the transactions were done following approval and awarding of the contract by the Western supply and tenders board.
He said he also queried the payment because an earlier payment of K300,000 was paid to the same contractor mid this year for a different project but the contractor had not delivered anything.
