Mt Wilhelm Park rangers gets new office

Mt Wilhelm climbers will now get more assistance following the launching of a Mt Wilhelm National Park development and management plan.
Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA), the Kundiawa-Gembogl District Development Authority and the Ministry of Culture Arts and Tourism  launched the plan jointly.
CEPA managing director Gunther Joku, Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Tobias Kulang and Tourism Promotion Authority chairman and Kerowagi MP Camilus Dangma launched a new office building for Mt Wilhelm rangers and a book containing  the plans.
Joku announced that the ministry would provide K500,000 for the development and management of the park.
He called on the people of Gembogl to take ownership of the Mt Wilhelm Park and benefit from it through tourism activities.
Joku commended Kulang for pursuing cul,ture, art and tourism in a bigger way.
Dangma said the tourism industry was important and that Kulang was getting serious attention to develop tourism sites like Mt Wilhelm to boost tourism in the country.
Kulang said the park was an asset for the Kundiawa-Gembogl district.
He highlighted the need for proper management of Mt Wilhelm .
“We now have the Mt Wilhelm Development Plan as a vision to properly develop it into an excellent part for tourists and visitors.
Under the new plan, every visitor will be monitored, any plant taken out will be screened,” Kulang said.
Mt Wilhelm was declared a national park in May 1994 by the government but little effort was put in to develop it.
