THE Melanesian Trustee Services Ltd (MTSL), trustee for Pacific Balanced Fund, is partnering the Coalition for Change PNG to support the fight against gender violence in the country.
MTSL has assisted the coalition with a vehicle to support their work to drive behavioural change in communities during advocacy and outreach programmes to prevent violence against women and children.
The coalition is an organisation working towards creating a PNG where its citizens, especially women and children, can live free of gender, spousal and family violence.
MTSL chief executive officer Kennedy Wemin said it would like to be able to make a change and educate people on the prevention of violence against women and children.
“We need to refuse to become inferior to violence and improve on changing the attitude of our people,” Wemin said.
He said PNG was one of the worst places in the world for gender violence as seen in the media every day. Coalition chairperson Lanna Assaigo-Kami said she was happy with the assistance from MTSL and the partnership would go a long way.
“We are currently going to organisations, communities and churches telling people about domestic violence and what can be done about it,” Assaigo-Kami said.
She said they were hoping to go into schools and other places to help change the mindset of people generally.
Assaigo-Kami said Nov 25 is White Ribbon Day.
