ESTU Mungkas made a great comeback to level the scores 1-1 against Yamaros in the Port Moresby men’s premier competition nearly sparking off tempers among the players from each sides at the Bisini Soccer Grounds on Saturday.

Port Moresby Soccer Association executive committee member Joseph Ealedona said it was a very physical and entertaining encounter which drew its fair share of spectators.

And Ealedona recalled his glory days when he put on his boots for the University to play some strong teams like Guria and Morobe United.

National Soccer League duo David Taro and Tau Winnie had beefed up the Mungkas side to lead the Bougainvilleans’ attack while, Yamaros comprising mostly players from the Gerehu suburb, were out to stamp their mark as one of the strong contenders for the premiership.

In another entertaining match, PNG fullback Cyril Muta inspired his new teammates POMSSOE to upset Rotex Momase 3-2.

Muta teamed up with the side coached by Wayne Taylor to maintain his fitness for the Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia in August.

In other premier games, University thrashed YMC 9-0, Gordon Mates edged Saints 1-0 and Cosmos beat Guria 1-0.

Yesterday, Guria drew Bulolo FC 2-2, Muiah Bros beat Saints 2-0 and Kokoda Warriors shot down Kurti Andra 1-0.

In the women’s games on Saturday, Lamana drew Yamaros 0-0, Mungkas belted Babaka 5-0, Guria defeated Telikom 2-0 and yesterday, University forfeited Murik Lake, Nakemo edge Saints 4-0 and Murat beat Nakemo 1-0.
