WEST New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel has pledged support for the people on Vese Island in the Kove-Kaliai local level government area.
One of this include building a seawall for islanders on Vese as a cross cutting measure for destruction due to the rising sea level as effects of climate change.
Muthuvel made commitment to upgrade the capacity of fishermen and women since the communities were highly dependent on fisheries as their main source of income by supplying 23 outboard motor engines from this year’s allocated budget and K20,000 to complete a church building for the Kameika Seventh Day Adventist church.
Other commitments to be captured in the 2017 provincial budget include:

  • An ambulance for Kandoka Health Centre; and
  • K150,000 for a double classroom.

Muthuvel praised the Kaimeika people for their perseverance of traditional values and cultural practices during his electoral visit to the area last week.

He commended the gathering for sustaining their livelihood despite the daily struggles faced due to the rising sea level and lack of infrastructure due to the geographical disposition of the area.
He also praised the people for maintaining peace and good order with one community orientated accord by teaching respect and integrity through traditional values.
“If you have nothing but are grateful then you are rich.”
