WEST New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel said his province respected the decision by the Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko to defer the PNG Games in Kimbe from November to March.
Muthuvel said the decision was based on giving prominence to the Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup tournament that would overlap during the original PNG Games dates.
Muthuvel said if the PNG Games had been allowed to be held in November, Kimbe would have had the basic facilities including the sporting fields ready.
However he said he accepted the decision made by Tkatchenko and the PNG Games Council to avoid the clash with the world football event.
Meanwhile, Muthuvel called on the Government to give prominence to the PNG Games in the same way it was doing with the Fifa event.
In that regard, Muthuvel appealed to the Government to release the funds promised to his province to host the Games.
Muthuvel said his administration was committed to making the Games a success.
