Nadzab project to continue

CIVIL Aviation Minister Davis Steven, pictured, says work on the K700 million Nadzab International Airport in Lae, Morobe, will continue despite the Government’s current financial problems.
Japan and Papua New Guinea last December signed an agreement to set the wheels in motion for the Nadzab International Airport development.
The project was scheduled to start in March 2016 and completed in August 2020.
This followed the visit to Japan by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill last October where both countries signed an agreement under which Japan would provide K578 million and PNG K114 million.
“The Government has been advised by the NEC that it (airport) is advancing,” Steven said.
“There’s no reason to question whether it’s going to happen or not.
“That’s a decision that’s already been made and we are moving forward.
“Nadzab is within the focus of the Government at the moment.
“It’s too important for us to ignore in the inventory of airports that we have.
“The Japanese government has come forward to assist us and our technocrats have advised them on the best options.
“From a ministerial point of view, we will make sure that this K700 million development plan goes through.
“We will give the details at the appropriate time.”
