NA’s resurgence seen as a good sign

THE National Alliance party views its strong showing in New Ireland as a good sign for the party, its president Walter Schnaubelt says.
He has been declared the new Namatanai MP after defeating his cousin and three-time MP, Byron Chan, of the People’s Progress Party.
The party’s Ian Ling-Stuckey is also ahead of PPP leader Ben Micah in the Kavieng Open seat.
But NA’s Michael Singan has given up the lead he had been holding against PPP founder and Governor Sir Julius Chan.
Schnaubelt told The National that the reason behind the collapse of the PPP (in New Ireland) “is the PPP themselves”.
“They basically let the people down during their time. They had 56 years combined (as politicians) but they haven’t delivered,” he said.
Schnaubelt is confident that the NA party will pick up more seats around the country to put the party in a good position to help form the government. “I think NA is doing very well,” he said.
“Our candidates are performing extremely well. That’s a very strong indication.”
Party leader Patricki Pruaitch is hoping to retain his Aitape Lumi seat in West Sepik.
