National Museum achieves milestone

THE National Museum and Art Gallery has achieved great things this year in terms of its operations, says deputy director Corporate Services Jeane Sliviak Kidu.
Kidu said under the leadership of director Dr Andrew Moutu, the museum started its own accounting system.
“So far in our annual operation we have done so well. We are ready to launch our corporate plan (2016 to 2020) that is in line with our 50-year master plan,” Kidu said.
The museum is preparing for the 2018 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leader summit in Port Moresby.
Kidu said Lapita pottery, tattooing and a bilum gallery would be set up for the leaders to visit.
“I believe there’s so much to call out for in terms of trust and confidence in the NMAG (as regards) our accounting system, our reporting back to central agencies, up-to-date financial statements written to the Auditor-General from 2013 to 2014. We brought things up to speed,” she said.
She said the legislative review of the NMAG was into the second phase.
