A senior officer for the National Broadcasting Corporation in West Sepik has been remanded at the Vanimo prison for failing to appear in court on three occasions for harassing a staff member and threatening a senior magistrate, Sasa Inkung said yesterday.
Inkung said that West Sepik provincial radio director Richard Ali, 56, from Ulau village, Aitape district, was arrested on Monday after a warrant of arrest was issued by the district court.
“He has been remanded at the prison and will appear before the court on Oct 12 (today) for threatening George Korei, a magistrate at the Vanimo District Court.
He was out on a K250 bail but failed to appear before the court for three hearings for harassing his staff member Celina Korei.
It was alleged that Ali had harassed Korei in the NBC office over administrative issues last month.
Inkung said that a neutral magistrate would hear the case.
